Q. What are your roles at the practice?
A. Kyle: Chiropractor, Keara: Chiropractor & Office Manager
Q. How long have you been open?
A. We just celebrated 5 years in October!
Q. How many patients do you see per week?
A. We weren’t very affected by the pandemic visit wise until this past 2 months (there have been a number of massive layoffs in the industries that we serve) so we sadly lost quite a few PMs, but within the past 2 weeks we are finally rebounding and back on the road to 500.
Q. Would you like to share anything about your practice adventure?
A. Team has been the most challenging part of the process. This past year we started from the ground up with all new team members, but it has been the biggest blessing. With the down time due to covid we’ve focused heavily on training and revisiting past modules. We also revamped the structure of our team trainings and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed it.
Q. What have you learned in your journey?
A. Delay is not denial! When we were starting the opening process, we found a shopping center we loved. There was a small space that we knew we could make work, but there was a much larger empty space that the realtor said was to be divided down into the ideal square footage we were looking for. When the realtor spoke with the landlord about our interest, he said he wouldn’t divide it out for us. Throughout the negotiations, the landlord was very disagreeable to everything and our only option was to take the smaller space (1200 sq. ft) with zero TIA. Starting out this made things even more difficult, but we knew this was the area we were meant to be in. Needless to say, our beginnings were VERY humble. Fast-forward 4 years, we got word that the landlord had finally decided to divide the space down. We jumped on the opportunity and got our dream space with a TIA of $20/sq. ft, meaning that our previously disagreeable landlord ended up paying for most of our buildout! So in the middle of the pandemic we were able to build our dream office (with constructions delays of course) but little cost out of pocket, which allowed us to bless our team even more in a time of major uncertainty in the world. How it all worked out over time was nothing short of a God thing! (Also, Jeff Hallberg is the absolute best and we can’t thank him enough for negotiating us such an incredible deal!)

Q. How has AMPED helped you?
A. AMPED has given us confidence and security in practice. Especially after this year, we are so grateful for the business model that AMPED has provided, because if we were a pay per visit office the pandemic would have been a lot scarier as a small business. With the monthly care plans running like clockwork, we never had a dip in income and therefore were able to keep all our employees on payroll, and even add a new CA.
Q. What advice do you have for students?
A.Get on board and dive in ASAP. Dr. Kyle fought being a part of a “program” so hard in the beginning because in his mind it was like joining a management group. Having only one doc on board with the AMPED systems and procedures really held us back and gave us a much slower start than most, but as soon as he saw how much smoother things went the AMPED way, he came around. The last thing you want is to be working on opening a business AND trying to learn the systems and procedures at the same time. It can be done, we are proof of it, but we made things so much harder on ourselves than they needed to be during the opening process, and it caused us to start so much further behind our colleagues that had been perfecting the AMPED systems and procedures all throughout school. Moral of the story: start early and completely master the systems and procedures before you open!
Q. What advice do you have for fellow doctors?
A. It is true that comparison is the thief of joy. For a long time we felt inadequate because we didn’t shoot out of the gates like most other offices, and we started out very humbly in an office that wasn’t our dream, but it was enough to get the job done. Once we stopped comparing our journey to others, we started finding the joy in the grind. There are still days I get frustrated for not being one of those offices that are 5 years in and seeing 1000/week, but when I remind myself that everyone’s journey is different and we all have our own trials and tribulations and circumstances that get us to where we are, I can see that we have still come so far and continue to grow in every way.
Q. What would you say to anyone considering joining AMPED?
A. Don’t wait, just jump right in! Waiting is only holding you back. “The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” -Mark Twain
Q. Anything else you’d like to add?
A. AMPED truly has it all laid out for you to be successful and steady. In a crazy year of uncertainty when many other small businesses were forced to shut their doors indefinitely, we were able to keep ours open to serve, build out our dream space, hire new team members, and even grow a bit. It may not have been the record-breaking year we anticipated, but we are thriving and growing in so many ways. So, THANK YOU leaders for creating something incredible that has allowed so many chiropractic families to continue to bless their communities when they need it the most!
